About the Ordinary Seaman role
An Ordinary Seaman (OS) is an entry-level position within the Merchant Marine. An OS performs general deck duties onboard a ship, including but not limited to, maintenance, cleaning, and steering. OSs are also responsible for following the orders of the captain and other officers, as well as maintaining the ship's equipment.

The purpose of an Ordinary Seaman job role is to assist in the operation and maintenance of the ship's deck department, including general maintenance of the ship's hull and superstructure, standing watch, and performing other duties as assigned by the captain or other officers.
