About the Resident Director role
A Resident Director is a professional staff member who is responsible for the overall administration and management of a residence hall, including supervising student staff, providing guidance to students, creating and implementing residence hall policies, and providing a safe and inclusive living environment.
Role Purpose
The purpose of a Resident Director (RD) is to provide support, guidance, and mentorship to students living on campus and to serve as a primary source of communication between students and university administration. The RD is responsible for creating a safe and secure environment, enforcing university rules and regulations, and administering disciplinary actions when necessary. The RD also serves as a resource for students, providing guidance on academic, social, and personal matters. In addition, the RD is responsible for overseeing student staff and developing programs and activities that promote student learning and development.
Resident Director Summary
The Resident Director is a member of the Resident Life professional staff and is responsible for the overall management and supervision of a Residence Hall or Apartment Community. The Resident Director oversees the day-to-day operations of the residence hall or apartment community, including developing a positive residential environment, providing guidance and support to student staff, and supervising and mentoring the student staff. Additionally, the Resident Director engages in student development activities, fosters student learning, and promotes student involvement in the residence hall or apartment community. The Resident Director is also responsible for responding to and resolving student concerns, enforcing university policies, and providing leadership and guidance in crisis situations.
