About the After School Counselor role
A "After School Counselor" is responsible for providing guidance and support to students in grades K-12 during out of school hours. This position requires excellent communication skills, the ability to manage multiple tasks, and the ability to nurture and motivate students. Responsibilities may also include developing and implementing activities to promote positive social, emotional and behavioral development.
Role Purpose
The purpose of an after school counselor is to provide a safe and supportive environment for youth during non-school hours. The role of the counselor is to create a positive atmosphere in which students can learn and grow, while also providing guidance and support as needed. The counselor will monitor the behavior of students in the program, provide mentoring, and work with parents and guardians to create a positive home-school relationship. Additionally, the counselor will work with other staff members to create a curriculum that meets the needs of the students in the program.
