About the Cartographer role
Cartographers create and maintain maps, charts, and geographic information systems (GIS) to accurately represent the physical features of an area. They use a variety of tools and techniques, including traditional surveying, satellite imagery, and aerial photography, to collect and interpret data. Cartographers also analyze data in order to make decisions and communicate their findings in the form of graphical representations.
Role Purpose
The purpose of a Cartographer is to produce maps and other geographical data that accurately represent the physical features, political boundaries, and other elements of a given region. They use advanced software and other technologies to collect and compile data from a variety of sources to create detailed maps for a variety of purposes. Cartographers must also be knowledgeable about geography and able to interpret complex data in order to produce the most accurate maps possible.
Cartographer Summary
The Cartographer is responsible for creating and maintaining accurate maps and charts for various uses, including navigation, resource management, and research. This role requires an understanding of geography, topography, geology, and other related fields.
