About the Cannon Crewmember role

Cannon crewmembers are members of the U.S. military who operate, maintain, and fire artillery cannons. They are responsible for ensuring the accuracy and precision of the cannon's fire, as well as the maintenance and upkeep of the weapon's systems.

Role Purpose

The purpose of a Cannon Crewmember is to operate and maintain large-caliber cannon artillery weapons systems, such as the M777A2, M109A6 Paladin, and M992A2 Field Artillery Ammunition Support Vehicles. In addition to these duties, Cannon Crewmembers are also responsible for loading and unloading ammunition, performing preventive maintenance, and cleaning and lubricating weapons. They must also be able to use communications equipment to receive orders and coordinate fire missions. The primary mission of a Cannon Crewmember is to provide accurate and timely fire support for the Armed Forces.

Cannon Crewmember Summary

Cannon Crewmember: Cannon Crewmembers are responsible for operating and maintaining cannon artillery weapons systems in support of ground combat operations. They must be able to identify, load, and fire weapons, as well as maintain and store ammunition. Cannon Crewmembers must also be able to operate and maintain vehicle-mounted and towed cannon, as well as related communication and navigation equipment. Additionally, they must possess a working knowledge of gunnery principles, firing procedures, military tactics, and basic land navigation.
