Role Purpose
The purpose of an Outside Machinist is to maintain, inspect, repair, and install machinery, both on-site and in the field. This job requires knowledge of machinery and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance. An Outside Machinist is responsible for adhering to safety and quality standards, working with blueprints and diagrams, and troubleshooting and diagnosing mechanical problems. They may work with stationary heavy machinery, or they may be called upon to travel to various job sites to provide maintenance and repair services.
Outside Machinist Summary
An Outside Machinist is responsible for performing complex machining operations on the surface of large pieces of metal. They must be able to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine the correct materials and tools needed for each job. They must have a thorough knowledge of various machining tools and techniques. Outside Machinists must also be able to accurately measure objects to ensure precise cuts, as well as inspect their work to ensure accuracy and quality. Outside Machinist Duties
- Perform layout and fitting of parts using blueprints, process sheets and other related documents
- Fabricate, install and test piping systems, pumps, valves, pressure vessels, heat exchangers and other related components
- Operate machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, drills, and grinders to modify and fabricate parts
- Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and drawings for use in machining operations
- Check parts for accuracy and make necessary adjustments
- Perform other duties as assigned
