About the Rehabilitation Technician role

A Rehabilitation Technician provides support to people with physical, mental, emotional, and/or cognitive impairments in order to help them reach their highest level of functioning. They assist with daily activities, provide guidance and support, and teach techniques to help patients become independent. Rehabilitation Technicians may also provide physical and occupational therapy, assist with medical treatments, and monitor patient progress.

Through assessment and treatment planning, rehabilitation technicians provide therapeutic services and interventions that promote the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of individuals with disabilities. They also provide support and education to families, significant others, and other members of the care team. Rehabilitation technicians work closely with other caregivers and health care professionals, such as physicians and physical therapists, to ensure the best possible outcomes for their clients.

Rehabilitation Technician Summary

A Rehabilitation Technician assists patients with physical, mental, and developmental disabilities in achieving their rehabilitation goals. They develop, implement, and monitor individualized treatment plans and provide therapeutic support services, such as exercise, activities of daily living, and cognitive rehabilitation. Rehabilitation Technicians also provide instruction, advice, and support to patients, family members, and other healthcare professionals. Rehabilitation Technician Duties

  • Assist in the evaluation of patients' physical and functional abilities
  • Provide instruction in the use of assistive devices, such as wheelchairs, prostheses, and orthoses
  • Assist in providing therapeutic activities and exercises to improve patients' physical capacities
  • Assist in the implementation of therapeutic plans
  • Provide education to patients and their families on how to manage their condition and use assistive devices
  • Maintain records on patients' progress
  • Consult with occupational therapists, physical therapists, and other medical professionals
