Role Purpose

The purpose of a Psychiatric Aide is to provide direct care to individuals with mental disorders in a psychiatric hospital, clinic, or other mental health setting. This role requires the Aide to monitor the patient's condition, assist with daily activities, provide emotional support, assist with personal hygiene and recreation, observe and report any changes in behavior or health, and keep records of patient progress. The Aide may also administer medications and treatments as directed by the supervising physician or nurse.
