This includes evaluating a patient's gait, analyzing their medical history, performing physical examinations, and ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests to diagnose and treat diseases, injuries, and abnormalities of the foot, ankle, and lower leg. Podiatrists may also provide preventive care, such as advice on proper shoe selection and foot care, as well as provide therapeutic treatments, such as corrective foot surgery, orthotics and prosthetics, and physical therapy.
