Role Purpose
The purpose of an oral surgeon is to diagnose and treat diseases, injuries, and defects of the mouth, jaw, and face. This includes performing surgical procedures on teeth, the gums, and other areas of the mouth. Oral surgeons also provide treatment for facial trauma and oral cancer, as well as manage corrective jaw surgery and facial cosmetic surgery. They may also perform dental implant placement and other reconstructive dental procedures.
Oral Surgeon Summary
The Oral Surgeon is responsible for performing a variety of surgical procedures in the mouth, jaw, and face. This includes diagnosing and treating diseases of the oral and maxillofacial region, such as impacted teeth, tumors, cysts, and other abnormalities. The Oral Surgeon may also perform restorative and cosmetic procedures, such as tooth extraction, bone grafting, implants, and orthognathic surgery. They must be able to assess, diagnose, and treat a variety of oral and maxillofacial conditions. The Oral Surgeon must have excellent communication skills and be knowledgeable about anatomy, surgical techniques, and medical terminology. Oral Surgeon Duties
- Examine patients' teeth, gums, and other parts of the mouth
- Diagnose and treat diseases of the teeth, gums, and other oral structures
