About the Oncology Physician role

The purpose of an oncology physician is to diagnose and treat cancers and other diseases related to the blood, bone marrow, and lymphatic systems, as well as to provide preventive care and provide emotional support to patients and families. Oncology physicians work closely with health care teams to develop and implement treatment plans, monitor patient progress, and suggest lifestyle changes and other interventions to improve a patient's quality of life.
Oncology Physician Summary
The Oncology Physician is responsible for providing comprehensive medical care to patients with cancer and/or blood disorders. This includes conducting physical exams, ordering and interpreting laboratory tests, developing a diagnosis, and providing treatment plans and follow-up care. The Physician will also provide counseling to patients and their families regarding treatment options, prognosis, and lifestyle modifications. The Oncology Physician must be knowledgeable in the latest developments in the field, including treatments, research, and guidelines.
