About the Mental Health Counselor role
Mental health counselors help people identify and manage mental health issues, such as depression, anxiety, and stress. They provide individual, family, and group counseling, and develop treatment plans that may include therapies such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). They also provide clients with resources and referrals to other mental health professionals as needed.
Role Purpose
The purpose of a Mental Health Counselor is to provide therapeutic support and guidance to individuals and families in order to improve their overall mental health and wellbeing. This is accomplished by assessing clients' mental health and emotional state, identifying any underlying issues, and developing treatment plans that address their individual needs. Mental Health Counselors also provide education, advocacy, and referrals to other mental health professionals, as well as provide crisis intervention services.

As a Mental Health Counselor, you will provide mental health services to individuals, couples, and families who are experiencing psychological distress. You will assess and diagnose mental health issues, develop treatment plans, and provide individual, group, couples, and family therapy services. You will also work with community organizations and health care providers to ensure that clients are connected to the resources they need. Additionally, you will help clients develop coping strategies and life skills to manage their mental health issues.
