Role Purpose
The purpose of a Cardiopulmonary Technician is to provide comprehensive care to patients with cardiopulmonary disorders, such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and heart disease. They perform diagnostic tests, monitor patients, and administer treatments and medications to help them improve their overall health. In addition, Cardiopulmonary Technicians may provide educational materials and guidance to patients and their families to help them understand their condition and how to manage it. They also frequently work with other medical professionals to coordinate the patient's care.
Cardiopulmonary Technician Summary
Cardiopulmonary Technicians specialize in the assessment and treatment of patients with cardiopulmonary diseases and disorders. Cardiopulmonary Technician Duties
- Perform diagnostic tests such as electrocardiograms, exercise stress tests, pulmonary function studies and Holter monitor evaluations
- Provide emergency care for patients experiencing cardiac or pulmonary distress
- Assist physicians with cardiopulmonary procedures such as intubations, thoracentesis, chest tube placement and endobronchial ultrasound
- Help maintain and calibrate cardiopulmonary diagnostic equipment
- Administer medications and oxygen as prescribed
- Educate patients about their conditions and treatments
