The purpose of an Autopsy Assistant is to assist the Medical Examiner or Coroner in performing autopsies. This role involves carrying out administrative duties, such as organizing paperwork, filing reports, and helping to prepare the autopsy lab. Autopsy Assistants are also responsible for helping to set up the autopsy procedure, including sterilizing instruments and preparing the autopsy table. They may assist in the actual autopsy by taking photographs, collecting samples, and helping to document findings. Autopsy Assistants may also be asked to take part in the autopsy report by summarizing findings and taking notes.
