About the School Psychologist role
A school psychologist works with students, parents, teachers, and administrators to identify and address learning, behavioral, and social-emotional needs of students in educational settings. Role Purpose
The purpose of a school psychologist is to provide psychological services to children, adolescents, and their families, as well as to staff members, in order to foster and promote the educational, social, emotional, and physical development of students. School psychologists focus on creating a safe and supportive learning environment, identifying and resolving learning and behavior problems, and helping students build resilience and develop the skills needed to succeed academically, socially, and emotionally.
School Psychologist Summary
The School Psychologist is responsible for providing psychological services to students, teachers and parents within the school environment. The School Psychologist will assess, diagnose, and treat students with mental and emotional disabilities, learning disabilities, and other mental health issues. Additionally, they will work with educators and parents to create learning plans and strategies to help students reach their educational and behavioral goals. The School Psychologist will also develop and implement prevention strategies to help create a positive school climate. The School Psychologist may also be called upon to consult with other professionals, such as teachers, counselors, and social workers.
