A Learning Specialist is a professional who works to identify and remediate learning challenges in students of all ages. They assess a student’s learning needs and develop strategies and plans to provide the best instruction, support, and resources to improve learning performance. Learning Specialists also provide guidance to teachers and families to help ensure that a student’s needs are being met.

The purpose of a Learning Specialist is to support students in developing the skills needed to become successful learners. A Learning Specialist helps students identify their learning strengths and challenges and works with them to develop strategies to overcome learning obstacles. They develop and implement interventions to improve academic performance and provide guidance to teachers, parents, and students on how to best meet students' learning needs. They may also provide consultation to school administrators and staff on how to create an optimal learning environment.
Learning Specialist Summary
The Learning Specialist is responsible for providing support to students in the areas of academic achievement, behavior management, and social-emotional development. The Learning Specialist will assess and develop individual learning plans for students, provide direct instruction, collaborate with teachers and families, and use evidence-based practices to support student learning. The ideal candidate should have experience working with diverse student populations from preschool through high school. The Learning Specialist should have excellent communication and organizational skills, as well as a deep understanding of learning accommodations and interventions.
