The Taper is responsible for preparing and finishing walls and ceilings of a structure. The Taper must mix, apply, and spread drywall joint compound, tape, and finish seams and joints between sheets of drywall. The Taper must fill in holes and cracks, sand, and remove excess compound, and apply texture to the walls and ceilings to prepare them for painting. The Taper must also be able to work from ladders, scaffolding, and other elevated work surfaces. The Taper must be able to work in a safe and efficient manner and must be reliable, punctual, and organized.
Taper Duties
- Set up and operate tape machines to record, store, and reproduce audio, video, and digital signals
- Control and adjust tape speeds, tape heads, and other related machine parts
- Adjust tape heads to eliminate noise and distortion from tapes
- Monitor tapes for sound quality and volume levels
- Splice and edit tapes
