About the Pipe Fitter role

Role Purpose
The purpose of a Pipe Fitter is to install, repair, and maintain various piping systems in residential, commercial, and industrial settings. This includes cutting and threading pipe, assembling fittings and valves, and connecting various piping systems to other components. The Pipe Fitter must be knowledgeable about different types of pipe and fittings, be able to read blueprints and diagrams, and adhere to health and safety regulations. The Pipe Fitter must also be able to work in tight spaces and be able to lift and carry heavy objects.

Pipe Fitter Duties
- Assemble, install, maintain and repair pipes, fittings and fixtures of heating, water and drainage systems and other plumbing related equipment
- Read blueprints, drawings and specifications to determine the layout of plumbing systems
- Cut and bore holes in structural surfaces to accommodate pipes and pipe fittings
- Install supports for pipes, fixtures and equipment
- Install, repair and maintain water filtration systems, water softeners and other related systems
- Inspect drain, waste and vent systems and make repairs as necessary
- Locate and mark the position of pipe installations, connections and passage holes for pipes in walls and floors
- Carry out tests to ensure system is working properly
