About the Ironworker role
Ironworkers install and maintain large structures made of iron and steel, such as bridges, buildings, and towers. They cut, shape, and assemble steel beams and columns, secure the pieces in place, and weld the pieces together. Ironworkers may also install pre-fabricated structural components.

The purpose of an Ironworker is to fabricate, install, and maintain metal structures, such as bridges, buildings, and other large architectural projects. Ironworkers typically install structural steel, reinforcing rods, and other metal components on large construction projects. They may also assist with the installation of mechanical and electrical systems, as well as perform welding, burning, and rigging work. Ironworkers must have a strong understanding of structural engineering principles in order to safely and accurately install metal structures.

Ironworker Duties
- Read blueprints and drawings to determine layout of structural steel pieces
- Operate cutting and welding equipment to fabricate and assemble iron or steel pieces
- Erect steel pieces on buildings and bridges

- Align steel components to ensure proper fit
