About the Iron Worker role
Ironworkers install and maintain the structural and architectural elements of buildings and other structures made from iron and steel. They fabricate, assemble, and install iron and steel beams, columns, and girders to form buildings and other structures. They also join these components together with bolts, welding, and riveting.
Role Purpose
The purpose of an iron worker is to install and maintain structures and equipment made of iron and steel. This includes bridges, buildings, towers, and other structures that require the strength and durability of iron and steel. Iron workers assemble, erect, and repair these structures, as well as install ventilation systems, guard rails, and other similar items. They may also be responsible for inspecting and maintaining existing structures, welding and cutting metal, and fabricating and installing sheet metal.

Iron Workers perform a variety of tasks related to the construction and maintenance of iron structures, such as bridges, buildings, and other large structures. They are responsible for erecting the iron framework, using cranes and other heavy equipment to lift, position, and secure iron components. They also lay out and assemble the framework, cutting and welding the iron components in place. Iron Workers install reinforcing steel, anchor bolts, and other fixtures, and inspect the structure for accuracy and adherence to safety standards. They also troubleshoot and repair any damaged sections. Iron Workers must be able to read blueprints, use hand and power tools, and lift heavy loads. A valid driver’s license and a welding certification may be necessary for certain jobs.
