Role Purpose
The primary purpose of a lineman is to work with overhead and underground electrical power lines. They install, maintain and repair power lines, related equipment and distribution systems to ensure that electricity is delivered safely and reliably to customers. Linemen also perform emergency repairs to restore power in the event of power outages, and they assist with construction and installation of new power lines. Linemen must have a strong knowledge of electrical systems, safety protocols and electrical codes. They must have the ability to work with basic hand and power tools, as well as climbing and rigging equipment.

A Lineman is a skilled tradesperson responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing overhead and underground electrical power lines and associated structures. The Lineman is responsible for connecting electrical power sources to homes, businesses, and other facilities. This position requires the use of specialized tools and equipment, as well as a working knowledge of power line construction and repair techniques. A Lineman must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions and be able to climb and work on power poles and towers. Additionally, the Lineman must be able to read and interpret blueprints, work orders, and safety regulations.
