Role Purpose
The purpose of a body shop worker is to repair and maintain vehicles of all types, including cars, trucks, and vans. This includes completing body repairs, such as dent removal, panel replacement, and rust repair; as well as painting, frame straightening, and detailing. Body shop workers also inspect vehicles for damage and use diagnostic tools to ascertain a repair plan. Additionally, they may need to order and install parts, test-drive vehicles, and keep detailed records of repairs.

Body Shop Worker Duties
- Clean and repair vehicle bodies and frames
- Remove upholstery, accessories, electrical and hydraulic window-and-seat-operating equipment, and trim to gain access to vehicle bodies and fenders
- Hammer out or fill dents, buckles, and other defects in vehicle body
- Replace and adjust parts, such as headlights, horns, and windshield wipers
- Repair and replace door hinges, window regulators, and window glass
- Remove damaged fenders, panels, and grills and bolt or weld replacement parts into place
- Inspect repaired vehicles for proper operation of all lights, brakes, steering, and other mechanical or electrical equipment
