Auto Body Worker Duties

  • Repair and refinish vehicle bodies, frames, and other automotive structural components
  • Remove upholstery, accessories, electrical and hydraulic window-and-seat-operating equipment, and trim to gain access to vehicle bodies and fenders
  • Weld replacement parts in position, using wrenches and welding equipment
  • Fill depressions with body filler, using putty knives
  • Remove damaged fenders, panels, and grills, and bolt or weld replacement parts in position
  • Align and straighten bent frames and other structural parts, using frame and under-body jacks, and turn-buckles
  • Sand and prepare repaired surfaces for refinishing
