Responsibilities include tasks such as loading and unloading materials, digging trenches, setting poles and anchors, stringing wire, and performing other duties as assigned. Groundmen must also be able to safely operate and maintain a variety of tools and equipment used in the job.
Groundman Summary
Groundman Job Summary:
The Groundman provides support for overhead line crews and assists in the installation, maintenance, and repair of overhead electrical and telecommunications lines. They are responsible for preparing the work site, unloading materials, and constructing poles and towers. They also assist with the installation of cables and wires, as well as the erecting and stringing of poles and towers. The Groundman must be able to safely use a variety of hand tools and power tools, and must be comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces. The Groundman is expected to adhere to safety protocols and work in compliance with relevant regulations.
Groundman Duties
- Operate machinery used to maintain grounds
- Mow grass, trim and edge lawns, and rake leaves
- Fertilize and treat lawns with insecticides and herbicides
- Maintain trees and shrubs, including pruning and removal
- Cultivate soil and apply fertilizers
- Maintain irrigation systems
- Prepare and lay sod
- Install and maintain rock gardens, flowerbeds, and planters
- Clean and store equipment after use
- Haul and spread topsoil, gravel, and other materials
- Perform other duties as assigned
