About the Catcher role
Catcher is a baseball position in which a player stands behind home plate and catches pitches thrown by the pitcher. The catcher also helps to call pitch selection and defensive positioning. Additionally, the catcher is responsible for throwing out any baserunners attempting to steal a base.

The purpose of a Catcher in an American English context is to receive pitches thrown by a pitcher during a game of baseball, and to throw the ball back to the pitcher or to other players in order to put out runners or to initiate action. The Catcher also has the important role of signaling to the pitcher which type of pitch they wish them to throw. Additionally, the Catcher is responsible for blocking any pitches that are thrown in the dirt, as well as blocking home plate in order to prevent the opposing team from scoring.
