About the Hospice Aide role

Role Purpose

The purpose of a hospice aide is to provide physical and emotional support to patients and their families as they cope with a life-limiting illness. Hospice aides assist with activities of daily living, provide respite care and emotional support, implement care plans, and coordinate care with other members of the hospice team. They also assist with end-of-life care, such as providing comfort measures, helping with funeral arrangements, and providing bereavement support.

Hospice Aide Job Summary: The Hospice Aide is responsible for providing assistance with activities of daily living, basic nursing care, and other support services for terminally ill patients and their families. The Hospice Aide assists with activities such as bathing, grooming, dressing, meal preparation, light housekeeping, errands, and providing emotional support. The Hospice Aide is also responsible for documenting all care provided and reporting any changes in patient condition to the hospice nursing staff. The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, be compassionate, organized, and able to work independently.
